Montage, the language of cinema in East Asia

Since last semester, I have changed my major from Modern Chinese history to the studies of Chinese cinema and media, which is a new research field in EALC of Columbia. According to this change, I had to take one methodological class about literaral and cultural theories in the studies of East Asia.

In the beginning of the semester, I thought this class was difficult. However, surprisingly, I enjoyed this class very much. I learned many theories which are much useful for my research in the future. In addition, I got to know some interesting topics about Japan and Korea. Great! I have never been limited in the domain of the greater China.

Moreover, I took one class about world cinema. The topic is melodrama, which is given by professor Jane Gaines. I learned much from her, including how to read the movie, how to read
one paper about a movie, and most importantly, how to bring out the idea of my own, rather than simply following behind the mature scholars.

Today, I change my blog from the general studies of East Asia to the specific topic concerning cinema studies. It is also the beginning of my true research road--toward to the world of montage, the language of cinemas in East Asia.

Good luck to myself.
